The Beth Tfiloh Camps Leadership Training (LT) program, available for incoming 9th and 10th graders, is a two-year program designed to help develop young Jewish women and men into the next generation of leaders in our community.
LTs will balance responsibility along with learning about child development while acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge, and positive attitudes required to help care for our campers, and as they look toward becoming a counselor or instructor here at BT Camps. Specific training will take place to ensure that our LTs are prepared to work in their designated areas, having the opportunity to work with a variety of age groups/bunks/specialty areas. This is a great way for LTs to gain experience and see which ages/areas suit them best.
The leadership programming will include learning about personal ownership, active listening, empathy, critical thinking skills and more. First year LTs will spend some time getting instruction from the LT Program Director(s) and also helping counselors or activity leaders. After an initial training period, first year LTs will be assigned to areas that are suited for them and will provide them with varying experiences. Additionally, along with the LT Program Director(s), the LT group will have opportunities to debrief their own experiences discussing what they learned in order to continue to improve. The LTs may also have the opportunity to hear and learn from community leaders, guest speakers, alumni and more as they continue to grow and develop.
Our LT2s will still receive instruction from the LT supervisor but will function as counselor and activity assistants while having the opportunity to choose which bunks or areas of camp they wish to work with in their second summer. This will allow for the 2nd year LTs to develop an even deeper understanding of how to become a leader.
LT1s and LT2s will participate in weekly group and individual meetings which will reinforce learning, while frequent performance reviews (by senior counselors, Unit Heads and Department Heads) will keep the LT informed of their progress. LTs will be seen assisting in activities, assisting staff and campers with lunch and snack, helping in other daily activities, and forming bonds with our staff and campers. LTs will become positive role models for younger campers while acquiring self-confidence & leadership skills. Helping to round out their leadership training and community involvement opportunities, our LT’s will participate in social action volunteer experiences.
LTs will have designated time to interact with their peers in activities such as free swim, team and relationship building, ongoing training, and group lunches, activities and experiences, as well as participation in our Carnival, Gaga Tournament, Color War and much more utilizing our incredible facility.
NOTE: Community service credit is given (based on weeks of participation).
