If your camper does not eat food of this style, or has other dietary needs, you may send dinner for the camper in a separate brown bag marked with the camper’s unit and bunk, and the word “DINNER” to distinguish it from the camper’s lunch. Camp is unable to heat items brought from home. We are unable to offer alternative menu items. However, campers who pack a brown bag dinner are still welcome to enjoy chips, a kosher beverage and dessert, or any other menu item we are offering that they are comfortable eating. ### Lunch Plans Are Subject To Change Based On Product Availability With consideration to those who keep kosher and of those who have food allergies: 1. We prohibit sharing of food items at all times. 2. We do not allow food from restaurants to be brought into camp at any time. ***\*\*\*PLEASE NOTE – WE ARE NOT A PEANUT OR ALLERGEN FREE CAMP.*** ##### BT camps ### a great place for kids to grow [ register now ](https://btcamps.campintouch.com/ui/forms/application/camper/App) --- ### [Travel Camp](https://btcamps.org/travel-camp/) **Published:** April 29, 2025 **Author:** seouser **Content:** # Travel Camp ## Please bring your seats to an upright position. **For campers entering 5th – 8th grade (10-13 year-olds).** Travel Camp is a five-day a week program, running Monday through Friday and is unlike anything else at Beth Tfiloh Camps. What are the camp dates? Monday, June 22nd through Friday, August 14th, unless there are snow days that lengthen school calendars. Camp is closed on Friday, July 3rd and Thursday, July 23rd. Where is the camp? Our summer camp is located in Owings Mills/Reisterstown Area near Exit 7B, Franklin Boulevard West off of I-795. Can I see the camp before next summer? During the off-season, we conduct tours of our campsite by appointment. Please call us at 410.517.3451 to schedule a tour. Can my child be with his friend? If they’re in the same grade and program, you may list the request on your camper’s application. We do our best to honor up to 3 requests for bunkmates. What is a bunk? Most often a group of about 12-16 children who are in the same grade and program. Bunks are usually not coed, but many activities are. Who are the counselors? Each bunk has a minimum of two counselors, one of which is the Head counselor, many of whom are college graduates or college upperclassmen. The head counselor is assisted by college students or sometimes a high school upperclassman. The staff-camper ratio is 1:4. Do the counselors run all activities? The sole responsibility of the counselors is each child’s general welfare, and they spend all day with their bunk. Each of the day’s activities is led by a different team of specialized instructors, highly trained and certified in that activity. What is Extended Day? With Extended Day you can pick up your camper from the “big camp” as late as **5:00 p.m.** There is a $1 per minute fee for each camper after 5:00p.m. The Nursery Camp day may be extended as late as 5:00 p.m. at Beth Tfiloh on Old Court Road. Will the bus come to my door? Though we find most folks don’t like their lawn getting torn up by a bus coming all the way to the door, the bus will stop as close as it can get! Many of our campers who live in Northwest Baltimore, including Lutherville and Towson, are able to receive door-to-door bus service, while others in these same areas, for a variety of safety and routing reasons, may need to use a centralized bus stop located a short driving distance from their home. Howard County and Carroll County residents, and those that live in remote areas, meet at centralized points. We cannot guarantee door-to-door bus service for campers registered for less than 2 weeks. Those campers may need to go to a nearby stop to get onto the bus. For campers enrolled after May 1st we cannot guarantee bus service. How long is the bus ride? Most rides average about 35 minutes each way. Some ride times are longer, some are shorter as that’s the nature of the routes. If you have a longer ride in the morning, you’ll likely have a shorter ride in the afternoon, and vice versa. Based on survey responses over the past few seasons, some more central stops may be added to some of our regular routes in an effort at possibly shortening the ride time while also making it easier for our drivers to navigate neighborhoods in a safe and efficient manner. What are the bus pick-up and drop-off times? Times usually fall between 8:00-9:00 AM and 4:20-5:15 PM depending on routes and bus stop locations, as well as traffic on any given day. Exactly where your stop falls on the route cannot be determined before sometime in early June. Detailed bussing information is emailed to enrolled families about a week before the start of camp. Some families choose to drive their camper(s) to and from camp each day. Our Extended Day Program is another alternative to riding the bus. What if my child gets sick or hurt? We always have a Registered Nurse on duty at our Health Suite who can administer medication, give first aid, and follow doctors’ instructions. For anything out of the ordinary, we contact the parents or, if necessary, the emergency contacts you list for us. What about safety at the pools and the lake? The counselors are in the water with the kids and our large, certified, aquatics staff is teaching and guarding at all times. At the lake, everyone wears life jackets at all times and our certified lifeguards are on duty. Our pools are designed to meet the needs of all ages and swimming abilities, from the more timid through expert. Can I attend for fewer than 8 weeks? Yes, however, we cannot guarantee bus service for campers registered after May 1st nor can we guarantee door-to-door service for campers registered for less than 2 weeks. Campers enrolled for 1 week may need to go to a nearby stop. What happens when it rains? The campers follow a near regular schedule if it’s just drizzling. If rain is torrential, the instructors from activity areas come to the campers in their respective bunk houses or covered program facility areas. We have rainy day activities, games, and other projects available for our campers to still enjoy a fun-filled day with their friends here at camp. What about really hot days? Even though we are an outdoor summer camp, lots of activities take place in covered, open-sided pavilions and in the shade of our hundreds of trees. On especially hot days we shift to a “hot day schedule” where we limit strenuous activities and exposure to sun. We add extra free-swim time, set up sprinklers and misting stations and make sure campers and staff drink often from our many ice-water stations. Camp will remain open regardless of the temperatures and/or air quality warnings. We will only close if we are mandated to do so. We understand and respect your choice should you decide to keep your camper(s) home on any given day(s), regardless of the reason, and we look forward to welcoming them back upon their return. For any missed days of camp, please call our office at 410-517-3451 to let us know that your child won’t be attending camp that day. Are there steps you take to help ensure camper security? There is a gatehouse located at the summer camp entrance that is always staffed. All visitors must sign in by presenting photo ID, receive permission to enter, must wear a visitor tag, and must leave their car keys with the gatehouse staff while on the campgrounds. Camp has extra security on site throughout the camp day as well as video surveillance cameras to help monitor campus safety. ##### BT camps ### a great place for kids to grow [ register now ](https://btcamps.campintouch.com/ui/forms/application/camper/App) --- ### [Nursery Camp](https://btcamps.org/nursery-camp/) **Published:** April 29, 2025 **Author:** seouser **Content:** # Nursery Camp ### WELCOME TO BT NURSERY CAMP ## Campers ages 2, 3, 4 **For campers entering Preschool – Pre-K (2-4 year-olds).** BT Nursery Camp is located at Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School at 3300 Old Court Road in Pikesville, MD (Baltimore County). LTs will balance responsibility along with learning about child development while acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge, and positive attitudes required to help care for our campers, and as they look toward becoming a counselor or instructor here at BT Camps. Specific training will take place to ensure that our LTs are prepared to work in their designated areas, having the opportunity to work with a variety of age groups/bunks/specialty areas. This is a great way for LTs to gain experience and see which ages/areas suit them best at our summer day camp in Baltimore County, MD. Near Howard County, Harford County, and Anne Arundel County, MD. The leadership programming will include learning about personal ownership, active listening, empathy, critical thinking skills and more. First year LTs will spend some time getting instruction from the LT Program Director(s) and also helping counselors or activity leaders. After an initial training period, first year LTs will be assigned to areas that are suited for them and will provide them with varying experiences. Additionally, along with the LT Program Director(s), the LT group will have opportunities to debrief their own experiences discussing what they learned in order to continue to improve. The LTs may also have the opportunity to hear and learn from community leaders, guest speakers, alumni and more as they continue to grow and develop. ![](https://btcamps.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/bt-camps-lt-camp-2025-2.webp) ### Second Year LTs Will Be Expected To Take On A Bigger Role Than The Previous Year. Our LT2s will still receive instruction from the LT supervisor but will function as counselor and activity assistants while having the opportunity to choose which bunks or areas of camp they wish to work with in their second summer. This will allow for the 2nd year LTs to develop an even deeper understanding of how to become a leader in our summer camp activities. LT1s and LT2s will participate in weekly group and individual meetings which will reinforce learning, while frequent performance reviews (by senior counselors, Unit Heads and Department Heads) will keep the LT informed of their progress. LTs will be seen assisting in activities, assisting staff and campers with lunch and snack, helping in other daily activities, and forming bonds with our staff and campers. LTs will become positive role models for younger campers while acquiring self-confidence & leadership skills. Helping to round out their leadership training and community involvement opportunities, our leadership trainees (LT’s) will participate in social action volunteer experiences. ### Additionally, We Understand That Peer Interaction At This Age Is Crucial As Our LTs Begin To Transition From Camper To Staff. LTs will have designated time to interact with their peers in summer camp activities such as free swimming, team and relationship building, ongoing leadership training, and group lunches, activities and experiences, as well as participation in our Carnival, Gaga Tournament, Color War and much more utilizing our incredible facility. NOTE: Community service credit is given (based on weeks of participation). What are the camp dates? June 24th through August 16th, unless there are lots of snow days that lengthen school calendars. Where is the camp? Our summer camp is located in Owings Mills/Reisterstown Area near Exit 7B, Franklin Boulevard West off of I-795. Can I see the camp before next summer? During the off-season, we conduct tours of our campsite by appointment. We are available most weekdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., but are closed on weekends. Call us at 410.517.3451 to schedule a tour, or request a tour on the [Contact Us](https://btcamps.org/contact-us/ " Contact Us") page. Can my child be with his friend? Yes, if they’re in the same grade and program. What is a bunk? Most often a group of about 12-16 children who are in the same grade and program. Bunks are usually not coed, but many activities are. Who are the counselors? Each bunk has a head counselor who is a college grad or a college upperclassman. With Extended Day you can pick up your camper from the big camp as late as 5:45 p.m. There is a $1 per minute fee for each camper after 5:45 p.m. The Nursery Camp day may be extended as late as 5:00 p.m. at Beth Tfiloh on Old Court Road. Will the bus come to my door? Yes, if you’re like most of our summer campers who live in Northwest Baltimore including Lutherville and Towson. Though we find most folks don’t like their lawn getting torn up by a bus coming all the way to the door, so the bus will stop as close as it can get! Howard County and Carroll County residents and those that live in remote areas meet at centralized points. How long is the bus ride? Most ride average about 35 minutes each way. If you have a longer ride in the morning, you’ll likely have a short ride in the afternoon, and vice versa. Our routes run the same both morning and afternoon. What are the bus pick-up and drop-off times? Times fall between 8:00-9:00 AM and 4:20-5:15 PM. Exactly where your stop falls on the route usually can’t be predicted before May. Our Extended Day program is another option. The counselors are in the water with the kids and a large aquatics staff is teaching and guarding at all times. At the lake everyone wears life jackets at all times and guards are on duty. There are also open-water and canoe 1 certified guards at the lake. Our pools are designed to meet the needs of all ages and swimming abilities, from the most timid through expert. Can I attend for fewer than 8 weeks? Nursery Campers may enroll for as few as 4 weeks but up to 8 weeks. **For Adventure, Arts & Crafts, Aquatics, Nature and Sports Camps as applicable:** Campers pre-k through entering 4th grade must register for at least 4 weeks of camp. Campers entering grades 5 through 8 must register for at least 2 weeks of camp. **For Performing Arts Campers:** The production runs weeks 1 through 5. Campers should register for all 5 weeks of this program. For campers enrolling in the L.T. Program, this program is 3-7 weeks. To make the most of this experience we encourage enrolled weeks to be consecutive. What happens when it rains? Since all activity areas have indoor space, the campers follow a near regular schedule if it’s just drizzling. If rain is torrential, the instructors come to the kids who are sheltered in bunk houses or covered program facilities. What about really hot days? Even though we are an outdoor summer camp, lots of activities take place in covered, open-sided pavilions and in the shade of our hundreds of trees. On especially hot days we limit strenuous activities and exposure to sun, and make sure campers drink often from our many ice water stations. Are there steps you take to help ensure camper security? There is a gatehouse located at the summer camp entrance that is always staffed. All visitors have to sign in by presenting photo ID, receive permission to enter, and must leave their car keys with the gatehouse staff while on the camp grounds. Camp has extra security on site during arrival and dismissal. ##### sign up today! ## Are You Ready to Register for the Best Summer Camp Ever? We also have multiple busses that service Howard County. If you live in Howard County, we’re closer than you think! The average ride time from Howard County to camp is often the SAME as a Baltimore County stop. ![](https://btcamps.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/bt-camps-school-bus-2025-2.webp) Our close proximity to many population centers means a reasonable riding time for our campers. In addition to the many staff who are aboard as passengers, two special counselors ride each bus to take roll, guide the driver on the route, monitor street crossing, help the campers get on and off the bus, and provide continuous supervision. Our busses are in constant communication with the bus company and the camp via radios and phones. We make our bus routes as efficient as possible by rerouting busses each summer. Also, some campers in regular transportation areas may have corner pick-ups/drop-offs because it is, often, not practical, or feasible to send busses down dead-ends and courts. Some campers may also be on central stops within neighborhoods to help reduce the amount of time campers are on the bus and enable the drivers to easily, and safely, navigate the route. ![](https://btcamps.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/bt-camps-school-bus-2025-1.webp) ### Centralized Pick-Up/Drop-Off Points Are Used In Some Neighborhoods within our usual pick-up/drop-off points as well as Areas Beyond Our Normal Transportation Zone, Such As Howard And Carroll Counties In Order To Minimize The Bus Riding Time. The exact locations of these centralized points, however, are not determined until our registration is complete. We locate the stops where they will be the most convenient and helpful to the greatest number of our camper families. In past summers, our Howard County bus service included stops in: River Hill Village Center, Dorsey Search Village Center, Rockburn Park Center, Walmart on North Ridge Road, Waverly Village Center, Pointers Run Elementary, The Village of King’s Contrivance, and Long Gate Shopping Center. It is important to note that central stops can change every summer and are based on enrollment and where campers are more concentrated in population. ##### BT camps ### a great place for kids to grow [ register now ](https://btcamps.campintouch.com/ui/forms/application/camper/App) --- ### [Summer Opportunities 2024](https://btcamps.org/summer-opportunities-2024/) **Published:** September 24, 2020 **Author:** admin **Content:** # Summer Opportunities 2024 ## Work at Camp Join our amazing, supportive environment. Since 2003, Emily has been a teacher at Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School, a place, and a job that she holds near and dear to her heart. She taught in the PreSchool for 20 years before moving on in 2023 to help teach Kindergarten in the BT Lower School, which she does currently. Over these many years, she has taught, and continues to teach, many of our campers. Emily attended BT Camps from Unit Aleph through our LT program and during her many years as a staff member, she worked in a variety areas and capacities, providing her a broad and unique perspective on the camp as a whole. In 2021, Emily became our Business Manager and shortly thereafter, also became the Assistant Director of Family Experience and Staff Engagement. In March 2024, it was a natural fit for Emily to become our Interim Director and, as of September 2024 she officially became our Camp Director. Part of Emily’s past professional profile includes managing retail establishments and medical practices. Her years of experience in these areas and her passion for all things BT, combined with her positivity, high energy, sensitivity, confidentiality, attention to detail, and excellent organizational and communication skills make her, both, a strong asset to BT Camps and leader of our team. When she’s not working, Emily loves spending time with her husband, Scott, their children, Ryan and Shayna, and their American Cocker Spaniel, Lacie. Toward that end I became an LT, aide, instructor, and finally Department Head. I’ll never be as cool or knowledgeable as Bob but I’ve got a few decades to work on it. Outside of camp I earned a bachelors of science in biology at Bryn Mawr College and a Masters in Art of Teaching in secondary science at Salisbury University. I’m currently a high school science teacher with BCPS. On the weekends my wife (a former BT camps counselor) and I enjoy walking the goats that live at nature, hiking, cross stitching, and playing disc golf. I look forward to another great summer here at BT Camps! 410-517-3451 Ashley Himelfarb Nature and Science Department Head - ![](https://btcamps.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Rachel-Murinson-2026.webp "Rachel Murinson") Hello! We have completed our review of the CDC’s most recent updated guidelines (from Friday May 28, 2021), and perhaps the most important takeaway is that everyone who is eligible should consider receiving the COVID-19 vaccine prior to coming to BT Camps. CDC guidance includes the following. ### MASKS: Camps may continue to require masks for vaccinated and not fully vaccinated campers and staff to adhere to prevention strategies when it is difficult to tell who has been vaccinated or to set an example for not fully vaccinated campers. Especially in settings when there are unvaccinated campers present at Camp. ### COHORTS/BUNKS Bunks should have the same staff stay with the same group of campers and remain together as much as possible for the duration of camp. The use of cohorts (bunks) can limit spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 between small groups. Campers and staff in the same cohort (bunk) will not have to wear masks outdoors, except in specified situations which includes the inability to socially distance for sustained periods of time. Bunks (Cohorts) do not need to wear masks or physically distance when they are together, (without non-cohort members nearby), if the campers and staff are not in an area of substantial or high transmission, or in a crowded outdoor setting or during activities that involve sustained close contact with other people who are not fully vaccinated. When different cohorts (bunks) are using shared outdoor spaces together, camps should continue to monitor and enforce mask use, physical distancing, and healthy hygiene behaviors for everyone. ### PHYSICAL DISTANCING: If physical distancing can be maintained \[between cohorts\] while outdoors, masks can be removed. ### INDOORS / BUSES: Current recommendation is that when indoors, all campers and staff will wear masks. This includes on buses and includes indoor programming at our Nursery Camp and STEAM Camp. Family members may sit together on buses but still must wear a mask. Non-family members are not permitted to sit together on that bus. Recently, in our communications with the CDC, ACA, the Maryland Camp Coalition and MDH licensing, we have been encouraged to proceed with the protocols we currently have in place and to remain vigilant in protecting our entire camp community against COVID-19. Direct expectations from the Maryland Camp Coalition are that Youth Camp Operators are expected to follow the CDC guidelines. The situation remains very fluid, and we will continue to follow all developments. We will continue to be responsive to national and local guidance as it is released leading up to camp. We know how important it is to provide our campers with an incredible summer, full of the activities and friendships they love. We will not deviate from that path while also remaining vigilant against any spread of COVID-19. ##### sign up today! ## Ready to discover amazing camp adventure? After graduation I joined the corporate world and traveled for 5 years to different hospitals, helping to configure, educate, and go live with telemetry and bedside monitors. I continued my journey through and have worked at camp as a Counselor, Lifeguard, Floater and, then, after a 9-year hiatus rejoined the BT Camp Family as one of the amazing Camp Nurses. I stayed part of the Health team since, taking a summer off to enjoy time in Israel with family. My two boys, Ben and Gabe have been attending the “big camp” since the summers they turned 4 and find BT Camps to be a home. It brings me joy to be back and to be here to help care for your children while they are in camp. As I tell my school families, I will treat your children like they are my own while we are in camp. I’m Ashley and I’ve been at BT Camp since 1990 (when I was 4 years old). I always loved camp, especially nature, and decided that I wanted to be Bob (the head of nature at the time) when I grew up. **Teams:** Leadership --- ### [Nick Forman](https://btcamps.org/imt_team/nick-forman/) **Published:** September 22, 2021 **Author:** admin **Content:** Nick brings over 3 decades of day, travel, and overnight camping experience to BT camps.
