Administration

Learn More >

The camp’s key supervisory and administrative positions are filled by well-qualified professionals. Most of our staff have lots of Beth Tfiloh camp experience among them – an average of more than eight years each. Most of our dedicated staff members return year after year, many for decades or longer, to help our campers grow and cultivate the Beth Tfiloh spirit.

Safety & Security

Learn More >

Because the safety of your child is always paramount, many of our counselors and instructors are trained in First Aid and/or CPR, including special skills for Infant and Child levels. Our Health Center is staffed by 2 full-time Registered Nurses with extensive training and experience in providing care for youngsters.

To help ensure the safety of each child, the background of every employee of Beth Tfiloh Camps is checked by the Maryland State Police and the F.B.I. There are always staff on duty to monitor the security of our entrance. Our camp has a close working relationship with the public safety services in our area to assure their familiarity with our special needs. We provide a supervised bus ride in vehicles that can communicate with both the bus company and the camp. Campers are never beyond the direct supervision of our trained staff.

Frequent Questions

When looking for a camp for your child, here are some important questions you should ask.

What are the camp dates?

June 26 through August 18, unless there are lots of snow days that lengthen school calendars. Camp is closed Tuesday, July 4 of Week 3 for Independence Day and Tuesday, August 1 for Tisha B’Av. See a full camp calendar here.

Where is the camp?

Our camp is located in Owings Mills/Reisterstown Area near Exit 7B, Franklin Boulevard West off of I-795.

Can I see the camp before next summer?

During the off-season, we conduct tours of our campsite by appointment. We are available most weekdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., but are closed on weekends. Call us at 410.517.3451 to schedule a tour, or request a tour on the Map, Directions, and Contact page.

Can my child be with his friend?

Yes, if they’re in the same grade and program.

What is a bunk?

Most often a group of about 12-16 children who are in the same grade and program. Bunks are usually not coed, but many activities are.

Who are the counselors?

Each bunk has a head counselor who is a college grad or a college upperclassman. The head counselor is assisted by college students or sometimes a high school upperclassman. The staff-camper ratio is 1:4.

Do the counselors run all activities?

The sole responsibility of the counselors is each child’s general welfare, and they spend all day with their bunk. Each of the day’s activities is led by a different team of specialized instructors, highly trained and certified in that activity.

What is Extended Day?

With Late-Pickup you can pick up your camper from the big camp as late as 5:45 p.m. There is a $1 per minute fee for each camper after 5:45 p.m. There is no Extended Day for Mini Camp.

The Nursery Camp day may be extended as late as 5:00 p.m. at Beth Tfiloh on Old Court Road.

For STEAM campers a-la carte, you may pick up your camper as late as 5:00 p.m. from Beth Tfiloh on Old Court Road.

Will the bus come to my door?

Yes, if you’re like most of our campers who live in Northwest Baltimore including Lutherville and Towson. Howard County and Carroll County residents and those that live in remote areas meet at centralized points. Mini Campers receive morning door-to-door bus service, where available, but are dropped off to centralized stops in the afternoon.

How long is the bus ride?

Most ride average about 35 minutes each way. If you have a longer ride in the morning, you’ll likely have a short ride in the afternoon, and vice versa. Our routes run the same both morning and afternoon so that the first camper on in the morning is also the first camper off in the afternoon.

What are the bus pick-up and drop-off times?

Times fall between 8:00-9:00 AM and 4:20-5:15 PM. Exactly where your stop falls on the route usually can’t be predicted before May. Our Extended Day program is another option. Afternoon drop-off times for Mini Camp are between 1:15 and 2:00 PM.

What if my child gets sick or hurt?

We have two experienced Registered Nurses on duty at our Health Suite who can administer medication, give first aid, and follow doctors’ instructions. For anything out of the ordinary, we contact the parents or, if necessary, the emergency contacts you list for us.

What about safety at the pools and the lake?

The counselors are in the water with the kids and a large aquatics staff is teaching and guarding at all times. At the lake everyone wears life jackets at all times and guards are on duty. There are also open-water and canoe 1 certified guards at the lake. Our pools are designed to meet the needs of all ages and swimming abilities, from the most timid through expert.

What happens when it rains?

Since all activity areas have indoor space, the campers follow a near regular schedule if it’s just drizzling. If rain is torrential, the instructors come to the kids who are sheltered in bunk houses or covered program facilities.

What about really hot days?

Even though we are an outdoor camp, lots of activities take place in covered, open-sided pavilions and in the shade of our hundreds of trees. On especially hot days we limit strenuous activities and exposure to sun, and make sure campers drink often from our many ice water stations.

Can I attend for fewer than 8 weeks?

Nursery Campers may enroll for as few as 4 weeks but up to 8 weeks.

Mini Campers may enroll for as few as 4 weeks and up to 8 weeks.

For Day, Senior, J.V., Varsity, Survival, Travel, and Art camps as applicable:

Campers pre-k through entering 4th grade must register for at least 4 weeks of camp.

Campers entering grades 5 through 8 must register for at least 2 weeks of camp.

For Theatre Campers:

The production runs weeks 1 through 5. Campers should register for all 5 weeks of this program.

For campers enrolling in the L.T. Program, there is a 4 week minimum. To make the most of this experience we encourage enrolled weeks to be consecutive.

What steps do you take to help ensure camper security?

There is a gatehouse located at the camp entrance that is always staffed. All visitors have to sign in by presenting photo ID, receive permission to enter, and must leave their car keys with the gatehouse staff while on the camp grounds. Camp has extra security on site during arrival and dismissal.

Does the camp produce pickles?

No, Beth Tfiloh Camps does not produce pickles.

Nestled in a serene wooded setting on 70 private acres, Beth Tfiloh has provided a well organized, goal-oriented camping experience since 1943.

Our convenient Reisterstown/Owings Mills location means just a short bus ride for most campers. Our site includes ball fields, hiking trails, the Sachs Family Challenge Course with two 60-foot towers, creative arts center, Sachs Nature Center, regulation sized multi-purpose sport court, and an amphitheater for special events. The aquatics area encompasses 3 pools, dual water slides, boating lake with 60-foot-tall-90-foot-long slide, bathhouse, and a splash pad interactive water area. Our Theatre Campers enjoy a Theatre setting with lights and sound in “The Barn”.

For our campers’ convenience and comfort, our modern bunkhouses are equipped with restrooms and individual cubbies for each camper’s belongings, and a private place to change for swimming. For those hot summer days we provide shaded picnic tables, water fountains, icewater stations, and an air-conditioned health center. We also provide refrigeration for everyone’s lunch, and freezers for the frozen treats distributed each afternoon.

Our many pavilions, enclosed buildings, and abundant natural shade offer protection from the elements so programming can continue rain or shine.

How to Get Here.

Ride the Bus. Learn More >

Beth Tfiloh Camps provides door-to-door transportation for most of our programs to campers living in our normal catchment areas in Baltimore County.  We also have multiple buses that service Howard County. If you live in Howard County, we’re closer than you think! The average ride time from Howard County to camp is the SAME as a Baltimore County stop.

Our close proximity to many population centers means a reasonable riding time for our campers. In addition to the many staff who are aboard as passengers, two special counselors ride each bus to take roll, guide the driver on the route, monitor street crossing, help the campers get on and off the bus, and provide continuous supervision. These special bus counselors also make the bus ride enjoyable by leading singing and games along the way. Our buses are in constant communication with the bus company and the camp via radios and phones. We make our bus routes as efficient as possible by rerouting buses each summer. Also, some campers in regular transportation areas may have corner pick-ups/drop-offs, because it is often not practical to send buses down dead-ends and long courts.

Centralized pick-up/drop-off points are used in areas beyond our normal transportation zone, such as Howard and Carroll Counties in order to minimize the bus riding time. The exact locations of these centralized points, however, are not determined until our registration is complete. We locate the stops where they will be the most convenient and helpful to the greatest number of our camper families.

Mini Camp campers receive regular morning bus service, but are dropped off to centralized stops in the afternoon. Examples of past Mini Camp afternoon drop-off stops include Beth Tfiloh School, the former Shopper’s Food parking lot near Target in Owings Mills, Meadowood Regional Park, and in The Park at Mount Washington.

In past summers, our Howard County bus stops included: River Hill Village Center, Dorsey Hall Village Center, Rockburn Park Center, Wal*Mart on North Ridge Road, Waverly Village Center, Pointers Run Elementary, and Long Gate Shopping Center. It is important to note that central stops can change every summer and are based on enrollment and where campers are more concentrated in population. We do not offer an afternoon stop for Mini Camp in Howard County.
